Rajasthan International Folk Festival was first held in 2007 as an initiative of Jaipur Virasat Foundation & Mehrangarh Museum Trust. It was held in the massive Mehrangarh fort in 2007 and it became an annual festival. The RIFF is established as an annual festival on the world music calendar.
This Jodhpur music festival was started to revive the Rajasthani folk music and to spread the beauty of Rajasthan’s folk music to the 21st-century patron. The Rajasthan Rural Arts Programme started by late John Singh served as the stepping stone to the grand RIFF. The main initiative of the RIFF is to find and highlight local talents on the global stage. The programme looks for hidden artists all over Rajasthan and picks up raw talents from even the most distant villages of Rajasthan.
The start of the RIFF is timed to coincide with Sharad Purnima every year. During Sharad Purnima, you can the brightest full moon of the year in the northern parts of India. Jodhpur RIFF features a string of amazing musical performances and events which are based on local culture. These festivals have managed to provide such a huge platform to the local talents making it UNESCO’s choice for People’s Platform for Creativity and Sustainable Development.
