Ajit Bhawan

Built almost a century ago, Ajit in the Hindi language means – The invincible and Bhawan is the synonym to home. True to its name, this architectural grandeur built in 1927 as the private residence of Major General Maharaj Dhiraj Shri Ajit Singh Ji, then The Prime Minister of the princely state of Jodhpur. Today, his descendants welcome you to experience history, culture and luxury in their gorgeous family home. It is imperative for us to share the legacy that once was an exclusive way of life for the aristocracy in India.

Rawla Narlai

Rawla Narlai is a 17th-century manor, sitting in the shadow of a granite monolith in the atmospheric village of Narlai, between the royal cities of Jodhpur and Udaipur. Inside, you will find frangipani-scented courtyards, curated dining experiences and lamplit terraces. Outside, there is the stark beauty of the Aravallis’ leopard country, meals in ancient stepwells and the most welcoming locals. Come, experience an authentic slice of rural Rajasthan from a beautifully restored country home.

Swaroop Sagar

A five-bedroom Audhi close to the Kumbhalgarh Wildlife Sanctuary, Swaroop Sagar is the ultimate hideaway for a small family or a few friends looking for a nature-themed break. Take jungle drives in leopard country, explore the majestic fort known as India’s Great Wall and enjoy specially curated meals with local delicacies. Swaroop Sagar combines the best traditions of Marwari hospitality in a location that is off the beaten track.

Bisalpur Dhani

Bilaspur Dhani is a rustic retreat set amidst a private natural reserve. A forty-minute drive from Jodhpur, the Dhani’s ambience is meant to help you slow down and take in the fresh air, away from the bustle of the city and commercial tourist hotspots. Enjoy a nap in the courtyard after a Rajasthani repast on winter afternoons, and then invigorate yourself with the kulhad elaichi chai, a speciality in these parts. We will arrange the drive to the property and back.

About Rajasthan

The enchanting state of Rajasthan is blessed with a variety of landscapes. The Aravalli range, older than the Himalayas, cuts through the state diagonally, dividing the dry western desert plains and the more fertile eastern plains. Dotted across the state are plateaus, scrubs and hilly mounds often topped by majestic forts and atmospheric temples. The crown jewel, of course, is the vast Thar Desert, with its endless sand dunes and memorable sunsets.

These diverse landscapes host a range of stunning wildlife in national parks and sanctuaries. The tigers of Ranthambore may get most of the press but the other wonders of Rajasthan include the leopard country of Bera and the raptor paradise of Tal Chhapar. On the way from Jodhpur to Jaisalmer, you can stop over for some birding at Kheechan, where you can watch the migratory demoiselle cranes congregate in the winter. The wetlands of Bharatpur can provide another avian spectacle.

The forts and palaces of Rajasthan carry echoes of a royal past filled with tales of valour and intrigue. The locals are fond of colour, pattern and texture, and you will find these wherever you travel in the state, from the turbans of the men to the ghagra-cholis of the women. Rajasthani folk music has a long and diverse tradition. Across the state, you will hear earthy vocals accompanied by the strains of stringed instruments like the ektara and the ravanhatta. Get enchanted by the graceful twirls of the ghoomar dance and marvel at the dexterity with which bhavai performers balance a tower of earthen pots on their heads.

No one does hospitality quite like the Rajasthanis. When it comes to food, you will be treated to delicacies that are very much a product of the environment. Take the example of ker sangri, a dish made of the caper-like berry called the ker, which grows in the desert scrub. To dine like the kings of yore, try the laal maas, a slow-cooked curry of mutton and Mathania chillies.
